WHAT WE DO

Brown Paper Circus is a Sydney-based performance ensemble striving to combine the athletic with the intellectual. With a particular interest in toeing the line between where circus and theatre meet, Brown Paper Circus uses circus language to drive narrative. Our storytelling is explored through a physical state using the body, testing its limits whilst also analysing and deconstructing circus’ trick for trick’s sake element. Harnessing each artist's passion and talents from a multitude of disciplines to make work which connects to the audience by delving in to aspects of the human experience.

Initially formed by David Jackson and Katie McDonagh in 2015, to facilitate a fundraiser, Brown Paper Circus is passionate about creating original work that inspires positive change through innovative arts experiences. Brown Paper Circus has devised four shows in four years- Letters To An Unborn Child 2018, Please Consider Our Neighbours 2017, Return To Centre 2016 and We Are All In The Gutters 2015. In conjunction with this, they also run a highly successful cabaret night, Little Big Top, which constructs a space for emerging and established performers to have a vehicle to explore creative concepts that may not have an outlet or audience elsewhere.
